Shopping for camping gear on Amazon can be a minefield. For every reliable brand I have used for years, there are a dozen others I have never heard of, all with glowing reviews. How do you know who to trust? After years of buying, testing, and occasionally being disappointed, I have built my own list of go to brands for different types of gear.

This is not a list of individual products, but a guide to the brands themselves. These are the companies I trust, the ones that consistently deliver quality gear that stands up to the realities of a wet weekend in the Brecon Beacons. Whether you are on a tight budget or looking for high performance equipment, this list will help you cut through the noise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are expensive camping brands always better?

Not necessarily. While premium brands often use higher quality materials, many budget friendly brands offer fantastic value and durability for family or casual camping. It is more important to match the reputation of the brand to your specific needs.

How can I spot fake or low quality brands on Amazon?

Look for brands with a consistent history of positive reviews over a long period. Be wary of products with only a few recent, generic five star reviews. Also, check if the brand has an official website or social media presence outside of Amazon, as this suggests they are a more established company.

Is it better to buy from a well known brand or a smaller one?

Both have their advantages. Well known brands offer reliability and good warranty support. However, some of my favourite gear comes from lesser known 'hidden gem' brands that offer innovative designs or excellent value to build their reputation.
